Bainbridge Island Without a Car: Ferry, BI Ride and a Park Day
Plan a car-free Bainbridge Island day using the ferry, BI Ride and Battle Point Park. Compare weekday, Saturday and Sunday service before you go.
A car-free Bainbridge day starts with two separate decisions: how you will cross the water, and how you will get around after landing. The ferry does not automatically solve the island portion of the trip. For an outing beyond Winslow, plan the return bus journey before choosing how long to spend at a park.
This suggested plan pairs the Seattle-Bainbridge ferry with on-demand transit and Battle Point Park. If the connections do not work, keep the day centered on Winslow instead of relying on an unconfirmed late pickup.
Build the day around your return
Use Washington State Ferries’ current schedules and alerts for your travel date. Check the route, direction and day separately. We have not embedded a sailing timetable here because it can change and a copied schedule can outlive its season.
Select a preferred return sailing and a fallback before arranging the island leg. Leave a connection buffer appropriate to your group rather than assuming a bus can deliver you at the instant ferry boarding closes. A requested pickup and a confirmed pickup are not the same thing.
Choose the correct bus service for the day

The weekday and Saturday details are from Kitsap Transit’s BI Ride page. The Saturday extension is currently linked to Route 385 support through March 2027. Sunday on-demand service has its own booking information; do not substitute the weekday instructions.
BI Ride serves most of the island, including the ferry dock, Winslow and Battle Point. Its published one-way adult fare is $2, and advance requests can be made up to seven days ahead. Groups need extra care: a request can cover up to six passengers, but seating is not guaranteed.
Make Battle Point the optional park stop
The Park District’s Battle Point trail listing describes a 3.5-mile system: two miles of interior looping trail and 1.5 miles around the perimeter for equestrian use. That total is not a required walking circuit. The listing identifies accessible parking, a path and a restroom, but it does not establish that every trail is suitable for every mobility need.
Choose the part of the park that fits the time left after transport. Agree on the pickup location with the operator, save it on your phone, and make the return plan clear to everyone before walking away from it.
Keep a simple fallback
If the bus request is unavailable or the weather makes the park less appealing, remove the remote stop. A ferry-and-Winslow day is a different plan, not an unsuccessful version of a bigger itinerary. Avoid adding Bloedel Reserve casually: it has separate admission and opening arrangements that this route does not verify.
