Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: August 30, 2026. This Privacy Policy explains how Kitsap Adventures, operated by Aldermedia (“Kitsap Adventures,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you visit kitsapadventures.com, create an account, submit or manage a directory listing, or communicate with us.

1. Scope and who is responsible

This Policy applies to the Kitsap Adventures website, directory, account, submission, and editorial services (the “Service”). It does not apply to websites, operators, agencies, map services, social platforms, or other third parties linked from the Service.

Kitsap Adventures is the organization responsible for deciding how information covered by this Policy is used. The Service is hosted in the United States by DreamHost. Contact information for privacy requests appears in Section 15.

2. Information we collect

Information collected automatically

When you access the Service, our web server and hosting provider may automatically receive technical and usage information such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type, device and operating-system information, requested URL, referring page, date and time, response status, and diagnostic or security events. Directory searches and filters may appear in requested URLs and server logs. We use this information for delivery, security, abuse prevention, troubleshooting, and basic operational measurement.

Account and authentication information

If you create an account, we collect a username, email address, password, and your acceptance of the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. WordPress stores passwords using a one-way password hash rather than as readable text. The Service may also store account role, login and password-reset activity, account status, and security metadata. Optional profile fields may be collected if we enable them later and you choose to provide them.

Directory listings and submissions

When you suggest, submit, edit, or claim a listing, we may collect the information you enter, including:

• listing title, description, categories, tags, and other free-text information;
• contact details such as email address, phone number, and website;
• location, street address, map coordinates, and other geographic details;
• prices or cost information you choose to provide;
• images, image metadata, video links, captions, credits, and source information; and
• the identity of the submitting account, policy acceptance, moderation status, and revision history.

Listing content is intended for publication. If a submission is approved, selected fields may be visible to anyone and may be copied, indexed, cached, or archived by search engines and other third parties. Do not place private contact details, home addresses, passwords, payment details, identification numbers, health information, or other sensitive personal information in public listing fields.

Communications and requests

If you contact us about privacy, corrections, copyright, safety, account support, or another issue, we collect the information in your message and the contact information needed to respond. We may keep related correspondence, verification information, and resolution notes.

Information from public and official sources

For editorial listings, we may collect facts from government agencies, park and recreation authorities, official operators, organizers, and other publicly available or operator-controlled sources. This may include public business contact information, location details, access information, and source URLs. We use these facts for directory and editorial purposes and identify sources when practical.

3. How we use information

We may use information to:

• deliver, maintain, cache, troubleshoot, and secure the Service;
• create and authenticate accounts and provide password recovery;
• receive, review, edit, verify, publish, reject, or remove directory submissions;
• let contributors manage their accounts and listings;
• respond to privacy, correction, support, safety, legal, and copyright requests;
• detect spam, fraud, malicious activity, policy violations, and security incidents;
• enforce our Terms of Service and protect users, the public, our rights, and the rights of others;
• comply with applicable law, court orders, and valid legal process; and
• evaluate and improve site reliability, accessibility, content quality, and directory usefulness.

Where a law requires a legal basis, we generally process account and submission information to provide the Service you request and perform our agreement with you; process security, editorial, support, and operational information for our legitimate interests in running a trustworthy Service; process information to meet legal obligations; and rely on consent when a specific law requires it. You may withdraw consent for future processing where consent is the basis, but withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing.

4. Public information and editorial use

Approved listings, contributor names or profile elements, images, source links, and listing contact details may be public. We may edit submissions for accuracy, clarity, formatting, accessibility, source support, safety context, and compliance with our policies. Publication does not make Kitsap Adventures the owner or operator of a listed place or service and does not turn a submitter’s private account email or password into public information unless the submitter separately places an email address in a public listing field.

Removing information from our current pages may not remove copies already indexed, cached, saved, or republished by unaffiliated third parties. Contact those third parties directly about their copies.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

WordPress and Directorist use cookies and comparable browser storage that are necessary to test whether cookies work, authenticate users, maintain login sessions, remember a “Remember Me” choice, protect forms, and preserve account or interface settings. Blocking these cookies may prevent sign-in, account management, password recovery, or listing submission from working correctly.

As of the last-updated date, Kitsap Adventures does not intentionally deploy advertising cookies, cross-site behavioral advertising pixels, or a third-party web analytics service. We will update this Policy and add any legally required choices before materially changing those practices.

6. When we disclose information

We may disclose information in these circumstances:

• Public directory publication. Information selected for an approved listing or public profile is disclosed publicly as described above.
• Hosting and technical service providers. DreamHost processes site files, databases, traffic, backups, email, and server logs to host and protect the Service. Locally installed WordPress, Directorist, and caching software process information on the hosted site.
• Professional advisers. We may disclose information to legal, accounting, security, or other advisers when reasonably necessary and subject to appropriate duties.
• Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law or valid legal process; investigate abuse, fraud, or security threats; enforce our agreements; or protect the rights, safety, and property of users, the public, Kitsap Adventures, or others.
• Organizational change. Information may be disclosed as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or transfer of the Service, subject to applicable law.
• With your direction. We may disclose information when you direct us to do so or give specific consent.

We do not currently sell personal information for money or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We also do not knowingly use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about visitors.

7. Data retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, including to operate accounts and listings, keep editorial and source records, resolve requests, maintain security and abuse records, enforce agreements, and satisfy legal obligations. The appropriate period varies by record:

• account information is generally retained while the account is active and for a reasonable period after closure;
• published listing and source records may be retained while editorially useful and in revision or archive records after removal;
• communications and request records may be retained as needed to document the request and our response;
• security and server logs follow operational, security, and hosting retention cycles; and
• backup copies may remain until they are rotated or securely deleted in the ordinary backup cycle.

We may retain information longer when required by law, needed for a legal claim, or reasonably necessary to prevent fraud or abuse. When information is no longer needed, we may delete, de-identify, or isolate it from routine use.

8. Security

We use measures designed for the nature of the Service, including HTTPS transport encryption, limited administrative access, password hashing, host-key verification for administrative access, software updates, backups, and security monitoring provided through the hosting environment. No website, transmission, or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Use a unique password and notify us promptly if you believe your account or information has been compromised.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

You may update supported account and listing information through your dashboard. You may also ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict, or provide a portable copy of personal information associated with you, or object to certain processing. The rights available to you depend on where you live and are subject to legal exceptions.

Submit a request to gpt@aldermedia.net with the subject “Kitsap Adventures Privacy Request.” Describe the right you want to exercise and the account or listing involved. To protect users, we may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify identity and authority. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, but we may require proof of authorization and direct identity verification.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. If we deny a request, we will explain the reason when required and provide any legally required appeal method. Because we do not currently sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no sale or targeted-advertising opt-out needed for our current practices. We will honor legally applicable browser opt-out signals if those practices change.

10. Consumer health and sensitive information

The Service is an adventure directory, not a health service, and is not intended to collect consumer health data, biometric identifiers, precise personal movement histories, or information about medical conditions, reproductive or sexual health, or health-care decisions. Do not submit that information. We do not use directory browsing or submissions to infer a person’s health status or health decisions, and we do not sell consumer health data.

11. Children

The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 may not create an account or submit personal information. Users who are at least 13 but under the age of legal majority where they live should use the Service only with permission and supervision from a parent or legal guardian. If we learn that we collected personal information from a child under 13 without legally sufficient permission, we will take reasonable steps to delete it. A parent or guardian may contact us using Section 15.

12. Third-party sites and sources

The Service links to parks, agencies, operators, organizers, maps, video platforms, and other third parties. When you follow a link, the third party may receive information such as your IP address, browser information, and the referring page under its own practices. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party privacy, security, accuracy, availability, or terms. Review the third party’s notices before providing information.

13. International visitors

Kitsap Adventures is operated in the United States, and information is processed and stored in the United States. If you access the Service from another country, its data-protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we will use an appropriate lawful mechanism. Visitors in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom may have rights to complain to their local data-protection authority.

14. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the Service, vendors, features, or law changes. We will post the updated version here and change the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice or seek consent when required. Your use of the Service after an update is subject to the updated Policy, but we will not treat silence as consent where law requires an affirmative choice.
