Hansville Greenway: Check the Highlands Closure Before Choosing a Walk

Use the county notice and trail map to choose an open Hansville Greenway walk, without guessing when the Highlands closure ends.

Check the current Highlands closure notice before choosing a Hansville Greenway route. The county’s park page currently describes habitat work and says the affected Highlands trails are closed until further notice. Do not turn its approximate work duration into a reopening date.

The official Hansville Greenway page, checked September 28, 2026, links the closure information and park maps. Read the notice and its map together. A trail drawn on a general map can still be closed, and a saved screenshot may outlast the conditions it described.

Make the route decision before the drive

Identify your starting point, proposed turnaround and a shorter alternative. Compare each with the current closure area. If you cannot establish that the route stays outside it, choose a different open destination rather than improvising around work crews. The county lists access through Buck Lake County Park, but access to a park entrance does not establish that every connecting trail is open.

Keep the outing small and reversible

Write the return time beside the route, carry the current map and turn back if signs or conditions differ from the plan. For a quiet observation stop, choose a place where others can pass without stepping into vegetation. A shorter open walk is a complete outing; reaching a mapped connection is not worth entering a closed work area.
